Troopers: Homer man makes for difficult DUI arrest

Alaska State Troopers say they arrested a 55-year-old Homer man on charges of driving under the influence Saturday after he rolled his pickup in Anchor Point and then refused to get out.

Martin A. Reid also "continually yelled vulgar language while in the presence of other patients" after he was taken to the hospital to be checked for injuries, according to an online news release posted early Monday. During a transport to the Homer Police Department after that, Reid spat in a trooper's face.

Troopers said Reid apparently lost control of his 2000 red Ford Ranger on North Fork Road. They discovered a loaded handgun in the pickup, and also found that the Ford had false registration on it "which included a handmade expiration tab," the release said.

Reid was remanded at Homer Jail without bail on charges of DUI, disorderly conduct, driving on a revoked driver's license, first-degree harassment, refusal to submit to a chemical breath test and fourth-degree misconduct involving a weapon, troopers said.
