The roommate of a man who was shot and killed in East Anchorage last week has so far survived his own gunshot injuries, leaving police with hope he will be able to give them vital clues in the still-unsolved homicide.
Morgan Meadows, 20, was taken to the hospital in critical condition but continues to hang on, homicide Sgt. Slawomir Markiewicz said Tuesday. Though police have not yet been able to talk to Meadows, they are hopeful he will soon be able to tell them who killed his roommate, Travis Villa, 22, Markiewicz said.
The men were shot in the head and chest in their unit at the Contempo 1 Condominiums at 261 McCarrey St. about 10 p.m. last Tuesday.
Following several gunshots, witnesses reported seeing two men get in two pickups outside and speed off, at least one of them striking other cars in the crowded lot on the way. One of the fleeing trucks belonged to Meadows. It was later discovered on fire in the parking lot of Mountain View Lions Community Park.
Markiewicz said every detective in the homicide unit, which has only seen six killings this year, is working the case and interviewing people who know the men.
