Suspect in killing of toddler last year in Whittier is arrested

A man charged with murdering his girlfriend's toddler daughter a year ago in Whittier was arrested Wednesday morning at a Fairview apartment without incident, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Shaka J. Levshakoff, 26, was booked at the Anchorage jail on charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide. He is accused of beating to death 2-year-old Anne Marie Nimmo in a Begich Towers apartment on June 24, 2007, while her mother was at work.

After initial interviews with investigators, Levshakoff disappeared and had been on the lam since. His bail is set at $250,000.
