PALMER -- A Palmer area man's home was burglarized and he was severely beaten in an attack early Tuesday, Alaska State Troopers said. Investigator Luis Nieves said John Shelhamer, 28, woke up when two men began beating him with a metal pipe.
Shelhamer was beaten on the head and forearm during the attack, which occurred about 5 a.m. on Lazy Mountain just east of Palmer.
The men also vandalized Shelhamer's vehicle and took some personal property, including a PlayStation 3 game system, troopers said.
Shelhamer was taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
The attack comes on the heels of a similar home invasion Nov. 11 at a home on Williwaw Way just north of Wasilla. In that case, a woman reported three men broke into her home, took about $100 in cash, a PlayStation 3 game system, and left in a newer model red Chevy Monte Carlo.
Nieves said both cases are still under investigation, but troopers do not think either case was a random attack.
