Anchorage Science Pub: The Role of Indigenous Knowledge in Science
Larry Mericulieff, renowned Aleut scholar, will speak. Decision-making based on what is defined as “best available science” guides modern day policy-making (laws, regulations) and academia. How are other ways of knowing accommodated? In fact, what are these “other ways of knowing?” Is science limited, disadvantaged, impaired without them? Learn from the perspective of one who grew up in the middle of the Bering Sea (St. Paul Island), has traveled widely, and been featured in interviews on NPR, Al Jazeera, and BBC.
