Fairbanks police say dirt bike involved in serious crash was stolen

Fairbanks police say two dirt bike riders injured in a crash Wednesday have been flown to Anchorage for treatment.

Police also reported Thursday that the Honda dirt bike driven by 22-year-old Clayton Nelson had been stolen.

Police responded to the crash at the intersection of Cowles Street and 21st Avenue shortly before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. The driver of a Subaru hatchback reportedly stopped for a stop sign at the intersection, looked both ways and upon pulling into the intersection, hit the dirt bike, police said.

The motorcycle's passenger, Lakeisha Nollner-Albert, 20, suffered serious head injuries. She was listed in critical condition Thursday.

Nelson's injuries include a broken femur and pelvis, police said.

Shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday, a resident on 25th Avenue reported to the Fairbanks Police Department that his Honda dirt bike was stolen while he slept the previous night.

"It was determined the Honda being operated by Nelson at the time of the collision was the stolen dirt bike," police said. "Nelson currently has a revoked driver's license."

Officers are continuing to investigate the crash and the theft, and are asking anyone with information to call the police department.

Online court records show no new charges have been filed against Nelson. An FPD spokesperson could not be reached immediately for comment.
