Monster 181-pound Alaska halibut is nice -- but $10,000 is even nicer

Californian Jamie Shaw had a fish on the end of her line this week big enough to take the lead in the $10,000 Seward Halibut Derby. Seventy minutes later, the 181-pound behemoth was in the boat.

Only one problem -- no derby ticket.

Tim Berg's Fishing Alaska, the charter that put Shaw in position to catch the big fish, suggests anglers buy a derby ticket before wetting their line.

"This fish would be in first place,'' the established Alaska fishing company noted in a press release, "but Jamie did not have a derby ticket.

"Be sure to have a derby ticket prior to leaving the dock, and you could win $10,000.''

The derby runs through June 30. Tickets are readily available in Seward.

But hey, who expects to catch a 181-pound halibut? Right, Jamie?
