A dog perished in a Muldoon home fire this afternoon, according to the Anchorage Fire Department.
The fire, at 7527 Island Drive, started outside on a deck and quickly spread to the kitchen and dining area of the single-family home around 3 p.m.
No people were there at the time, but three dogs were inside. A neighbor rescued two of them, but the third didn't make it out.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze within 15 minutes. The likely cause was a cigarette, the AFD said in a release.
The fire and water damage was estimated at $50,000.
