State officials take over Anchorage nursing home after inspection

State officials are taking over a long-term care facility after inspectors found issues that they say jeopardize the residents' health.

The Prestige Care and Rehabilitation Facility serves nearly 100 people in Anchorage. Alaska's Department of Health and Social Services says an unusually high number of its residents were visiting the hospital.

The department's commissioner, Valerie Davidson, says her top priority is to protect the health and safety of the residents. She says her team will ensure that the facility makes immediate improvements.

Prestige Care told Anchorage TV station KTUU Saturday that it takes the findings seriously. The company says it's working with the state to immediately address the issues.

The facility's license has been revoked but a new temporary license is in place to allow it to stay open.
