Photos: Aces fall to Reign 4-1

As omens go, the Alaska Aces keep enduring haunting ones, the latest of which came in Wednesday night's debilitating 4-1 loss to the Ontario Reign, which further weakened the Aces' shot at an ECHL playoff spot and pushed them closer to hockey hell.

The Aces trailed 2-1 at Sullivan Arena and were killing a penalty to start the third period when Brendan Connolly, the team leader in goals and points, set sail on a breakaway. But just as Connolly prepared to fire a shot on Jussi Olkinuora, the puck appeared to slow slightly – even a hint of residual water left from resurfacing during intermission can act as friction on the puck – and Connolly fanned on his shot.
