Letter: Even Yukon country wolves howled their approval of KHAR music
Like so many I remain saddended and dismayed at the loss of KHAR’s music. With an existing 24/7 sports talk show I find it hard to believe the owners thought we needed yet another. I will never forget lying in a tent in the middle of “nowhere” Alaska on a full moon night. I had wrapped a radio...

Letter: Teacher had a right to pray
During the coverage of the horrible tornado that struck Oklahoma this week, one of the teachers who protected two or three of her students using herself as a shield stated that she knew she wasn’t supposed to pray but she did anyway. On all counts, she did the right thing.

Letter: Thanks for Lemonade Day help
Lemonade Day was May 11 and what a great day it was, and what a great program it is. It helps kids learn about business and entrepreneurship, giving back to the community, saving, and that it can be fun at the same time.

Letter: Bring back KHAR’s old-time music
I can’t stay silent anymore. I have to let you know my feelings. We came to Alaska via the military 43 years ago and KHAR was our station; even our little toddler loved the music.

Letter: Obama administration has been deceptive and vindictive
After the November election, I wrote that the second term of the Obama administration would represent four more stagnant years for our nation if he didn’t move to the right. The prognosis for the economy was correct, but the executive branch has not been dormant.

Letter: Oil industry requires exploration
In response to Rep. Gara’s letter on Tuesday, if all of the other states and countries would not allow the oil companies to invest any of their profits outside of their state or country, there would have been no North Slope oil ever discovered.

Letter: No cashing in on Memorial Day
Shame! Shame! Shame! On every business that has a sale this weekend. This is Memorial Day weekend, reserved for all Americans to stop and be thankful for what we have because of the men and women who gave their lives in the call of military service. It is not a weekend for businesses to profit on...

Letter: Corporations don’t deserve tax breaks
I read in your article about Apple avoiding income taxes that “in 2011, individual income taxes contributed $1.1 trillion to federal coffers, while corporate taxes added up to $181 billion.”

Letter: Having bigwigs on board doesn’t make 787 Dreamliner any safer
So the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is flying again. I loved the story from the Chicago Tribune (“United Dreamliner returns to service”) reprinted in the Anchorage Daily News. The fact that the CEOs of Boeing and United were on board for the flight from Houston to Chicago, along with Boeing...

Letter: Moore misses the differences
Shannyn Moore (column, May 19) re-animates old talking points to assert that Benghazi is no big deal, when 60 people were killed in attacks under Cheney’s watch. The difference between those attacks and Benghazi is this: no one lied about those attacks, and no one blamed them on some video...

Letter: KHAR change leaves music void
KHAR was the only station I listened to. I would like to add myself to the many others who have complained about its change of programming. Am hoping that the management will pay attention and return to the previous format of beautiful music.
