Creed, Styx, Messina top Alaska State Fair concert lineup
The Alaska State Fair has announced eight of 12 performers slated for the Borealis Stage from Aug. 23 to Sept. 3, including '90s arena-rockers Creed, classic prog-rockers Styx, country singer Jo Dee Messina and comedian/ventriloquist Jeff Dunham.

Giant pumpkin begins journey to fairgrounds
A crane lifts Dale Marshall's pumpkin out of his Anchorage greenhouse and into his pickup for transport to the Alaska State Fair this morning. Its concave bottom will most likely undermine his efforts to claim a world record. "It is what it is," Marshall said. The weigh-in at the fair is scheduled for early afternoon.

The biggest pumpkins in Alaska weighed in Wednesday at the Alaska State Fair -- all two of them entered in the 2008 Alaska's Midnight Sun Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off.

Alaska Railroad steam locomotive, Engine #557,arrived in Anchorage on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012. The locomotive first came to Alaska in Dec. 1944 and was sold to a private museum in Moses Lake, Wash. in 1964. The Alaska Railroad hopes to restore it for excursions.
