• Fridays through September, 7 p.m. Themed garden tours at Tryck Gardens led by Doug Tryck. Spring bulbs and early flowers is the theme of the first tour. • Saturday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Alaska Rock Garden Society plant sale. Old Harbor Road. off Muldoon. Choice rock garden plants and expert advice from the gardeners. This event is always popular, come early for best selection.
• Saturday, 10 a.m –4 p.m. Dirt Day. If you’ve wanted to try your hand at backyard composting, here is a good way to get started. A compost bin truck load sale ($50 per bin), compost education, compost demonstrations, kids’ activities and coupons for compost tools will all be on hand at this event. Sponsored by the Anchorage Soil & Water Conservation District, Norseman Plastics and the Municipality of Anchorage Solid Waste Services. Held at 980 E. 54th Ave. (just off the Old Seward Highway in the parking lot of the old AAA Storage facility near the MOA Solid Waste Transfer Station.) • Sunday, 2 p.m. Morel and Mushroom Foray. Volunteer and mushroom enthusiast Diane Pleninger will teach you how to identify and distinguish the edible and tasty morel from a false morel. An indoor introduction to mushroom collecting techniques and etiquette is followed by a 2 mile walk on Eagle River Nature Center trails. Free program; $5 parking for nonmembers.

• May 20-21, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Garden Art and Plant Sale at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center, 9101 Hesterberg Road in Eagle River. Plants, vegetable starts and hanging baskets in decorative log planters. In addition, they will have a limited selection of outdoor rustic furniture and Alaska themed backyard fire rings. 9101 Hesterberg Road, Hiland Road exit off the Glenn Highway in Eagle River.
