Alaska's two general hospitals are offering free flu shots for adults today.
Alaska Regional Hospital will offer free "drive-through" flu shots to adults from 6-8:30 p.m. at the hospital. Participants -- who must be 18 and older -- can receive the vaccinations without leaving their vehicles. They'll be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis on the northwest side of the hospital, located at 2801 DeBarr Road.
Providence Alaska Medical Center is offering free shots for adults in Eagle River as part of the opening events for its medical office building there, 17101 Snowmobile Lane. The opening runs from 4-7 p.m.
The Anchorage Department of Health and Human Services will offer free flu shots to people of all ages during a "Harvest of Health" open house from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday. The fair will also offer free pneumonia and DTAP vaccinations. The event will be held at the DHHS building at 825 L St. For more information, call Minta Montalbo at 343-4619.
Flu shots also are available for a fee from physicians' offices and elsewhere. For example, shots will be available at the pharmacies of some Carrs grocery stores on Saturdays for the next couple of weeks. Saturday the stores include Abbott Road, Muldoon, Huffman, Palmer and Homer; the hours typically are late morning and early afternoon.
