What makes a great Alaska mother?

Is it that she can jump-start the car after you leave the dome light on and drain the battery? Or that she fills a berry bucket in 10 minutes but doesn't get too mad that you ate half of what you picked. Or that when she cooks a salmon, she also caught it because she knows where the great fishing spots are and what lures to use? Or is it that she can wear bunny boots and still make a fashion statement?
There are too many reasons why Alaska's moms are special to put into words. But sometimes photos help. We asked readers to send in pictures of themselves and their mothers and were hit by more than 200 submissions by press time. The settings, lighting and camera techniques varied, but the heart of the matter came through in all of them.
Today seems like a good day to share some of these maternal mementos.
Few of the photos came with credits or captions. Such information as the senders cared to include will be found at the online gallery. But you know who you are.
