Sunday morning was sunny and brisk, lovely for coffee-sipping on the back steps with the dog, the two of us regarding the serene green yard with apparently equal pleasure.
The serenity lasted two hours. That's exactly how long it took a stealth of 13 yellow dandelions to appear.
Anchorage, they're back. If you want a fighting chance against them, don't delay.
Last year I discovered the Fiskars UpRoot, that near-miraculous dandelion extractor (also, it's a lot of fun to use), but there are places only a heavy screwdriver with a chaser of BurnOut will work.
BurnOut is a weed-killing mix of oil of cloves, vinegar and lemon juice. It's to be used as a rifle, not a shotgun, on what needs to go away. With each dandelion, I've had good luck by digging out as much as I can, then squirting BurnOut down the hole.
They've apparently given up on the front yard. Last year I laid down enough corn gluten to plow up hush puppies, so that also may be having some effect.
