Arthur Keyes says the Wednesday Farmers Market at Dimond Center will open for the first time today. That market is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Keyes said he will have tomatoes, lettuce, potatoes, onions, cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, zucchini and eggplant.

Sarah and River Bean of Arctic Organics say they will have their farm stand open Fridays through the rest of the season from 5 to 7 p.m. at 1305 N. Smith Road, just south of the Mt. View RV Park.

Their produce is also available Saturdays at the Anchorage Farmers Market from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. at 15th Avenue and Cordova Street. Look for white turnips with greens, young leaf lettuces, spinach, arugula, mixed greens, radishes, mizuna, mibuna, tat soi, Chinese cabbage, pac choi, basil and nasturtium blossoms.

Also at the Anchorage Farmers Market, Vern and Becky of Stockwell Farm will have red-leaf lettuce, bok choi, Swiss chard, tat soi and other Asian greens, plus rhubarb, arugula and beets.

HE'LL BE HARD TO MISS

Vitali Seldovitsch will be at several markets this next week. He plans to have red loose-leaf, butter and romaine lettuces today at the Wasilla Farmers Market from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

He will also have garlic, green onions, red and white turnips, beets, cilantro, dill, chard, radishes and baby bok choi there as well as at the Eagle River market from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays at the Anchorage Farmers Market and from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Sunday market downtown.

Mark Rempel who farms near the Butte said the cool weather has slowed his zucchini crop and that makes him wonder how the winter squash will do. But he does have organic collards, Snow Apple turnips, romaine, butter and red lettuce, cilantro, spinach, kale, radishes and greens.

He'll be at the South Anchorage market Saturday.

Mark Dinkel, who farms off Fairview Loop in Wasilla, will be at the Wednesday Market at Northway Mall and the Downtown Market on Third Avenue with green beans, tomatoes, zucchini, pickles and strawberries.

PIGS AND CHEESE

Alex Davis still has pigs for sale. Consumers make a down payment and then pay the rest at butcher time. If you don't have room for a whole hog, he will sell halves.

He said Cranberry Ridge Farm cheese will finally be available today at Northway Mall and the South Anchorage Farmers Market on Saturday.

The cheese runs $15 for an 8-ounce package. The first flavor is jack cheese.

Davis will also have spinach, rhubarb, farm-fresh eggs and homemade jams.
