PARTIAL PERFORMANCE: The second movement of the seven-part cantata "The Skies Are Weeping" will be among several pieces performed in a spring concert by the University of Alaska Percussion Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Munger. At the end of a long and contentious public meeting April 8, Munger announced his full cantata would not be performed April 27. But on Thursday, he said seg-ment two has been renamed "Recently Untitled Dance" and would be per-formed. It has no lyrics. The concert will include a variety of percussion music including rudimental, Brazilian, calypso, folk song, classical and contemporary works. UAA marimba soloist Meggie Auge will be featured on Ney Rosauro's Concerto for Marimba and Percussion Ensemble. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students, seniors and military; children younger than 12 get in free.
RACHEL CORRIE POEM and BBC DOCUMENTARY: UAA professor and poet Linda McCarriston will read and discuss a poem she wrote to honor Rachel Corrie at 7 p.m. Friday in the UAA College of Arts and Science Building (Consortium Library), Room 118. The poem is used in the fourth segment of the Munger cantata. The documentary "Dispatches -- The Killing Zone" will be shown afterward. It discusses the deaths of Corrie, British activist Tom Hurndall and documentary filmmaker Tom Miller. The event is sponsored by Alaskans for Peace and Justice and the UAA political science and sociology departments. For more information, call 344-0608 or e-mail justice@aks4peace.org.
