Sharon and Rodney Schulling

The family of Sharon and Rodney Schulling are proud to announce the 40th anniversary of the former Alaska residents, now living in Marion, Ind. They were married Aug. 25, 1968, in Woodstock, Ill.

Rodney is retired, and Sharon is a professor at Indiana Wesleyan University.

The couple met while in the Navy; she was a nurse at Great Lakes Naval Hostpital, and Rodney was a shipboard officer returning from service in Vietnam.

When they moved to Alaska in 1977, they brought their family and dogs, all packed into a 1976 Toyota Corolla. Rodney took work with the Matanuska Susitna Borough as a planner, and Sharon first worked as a registered nurse at Palmer hospital.

They became members of St. John Lutheran Church in Palmer.

Sharon returned to school and ultimately opened a medical clinic in Wasilla. Rodney retired from the borough, and Sharon finished with a doctorate from the University of Nebraska.

Since retirement, they have traveled worldwide, sometimes for pleasure and other times for their tireless missionary work. They plan on returning to Africa soon to celebrate their 40th anniversary.

The Schullings have six children and eight grandchildren.

Crystal Fields and Adam Turner

Crystal Marie Fields and Adam Paul Turner will marry Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Tanglewood Lakes clubhouse. A dear friend of the couple, Will Robinson, will officiate. The reception will follow in the same location.

The couple became friends five years ago and began dating a year ago. Both have a strong faith in God and know in their hearts that his plan for them is to walk through life side by side. They will make their home in Anchorage.

Crystal is the daughter of Barbara L. Fields of Ketchikan and the late Edward Carle of Craig. She graduated from Craig High School and raised her sons in Juneau while working for the state. Crystal moved to Anchorage five years ago while working for the Department of Labor. She has since accepted a job at Adams and Associates.

Adam is the son of Craig and Mary Turner of Anchorage. He graduated from Lake Washington High School in Kirkland, Wash., and moved to Anchorage in 2001. Adam is a heavy equipment mechanic and works for DMO in Prudhoe Bay.

Junko Kanagawa and James Moen Jr.

James A. Moen Jr. and Junko Kanagawa, both of Tokyo, were married July 20 at the Ogasawara Hakushakutei restaurant in Tokyo.

The garden wedding was officiated by the Rev. Thierry Robouam of Sophia University in Tokyo. Bridesmaids were Rie Sakai and Kai Shiomura, both friends of the bride, and groomsmen were Sankar Kalirajan and Ryan Moen, brother of the bridegroom. Nicholas Henley, nephew of the bridegroom, was ring-bearer. A dinner reception followed the ceremony. The wedding and reception were a lovely mix of Japanese and American customs.

Family and friends traveled from throughout Japan, the United States, Australia and Thailand. James and Junko delayed their honeymoon to spend time with everyone. They will honeymoon in Paris and Greece in the fall.

Junko is the daughter of Tsugunari and Akemi Kanagawa of Funabashi, Japan. She is a graduate of Sophia University and works as an advertising executive for I&S BBDO in Tokyo.

James is the son of Anne Moen of Eagle River and the late James Moen. He graduated from Soldotna High School in 1998 and earned bachelor's degrees from Sophia University and Temple University, Tokyo Campus. James is an internal auditor for Lehman Brothers in the Tokyo office.

Both enjoy golfing, traveling and discovering new restaurants in Tokyo.

Kristine and Richard Stout

Richard Stout and Kristine Liebner, both born and raised in Anchorage, were married June 28 at Alpenglow at Arctic Valley. They met at Dimond High School and have been inseparable ever since. Their wedding day was a beautiful day on the mountainside, and they were surrounded by friends and family.

"We would like to thank all of our friends and family for supporting us over the years," the couple wrote.

Kristine is the daughter of Kevin Liebner and Corinne Kenney. Her younger brother is Michael Liebner.

Richard is the son of Jim and Robin Stout. His older brother is Michael Stout.

Rebekah Boggs-Gray and William Watkin IV

Former Anchorage residents Cammie Gray Jr. and Kathryn Boggs-Gray of Summit, Miss., proudly announce the engagement of their daughter, Rebekah Camille Boggs-Gray, to William Ward Watkin IV.

Rebekah is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Boggs of McComb, Miss., and Ruby Gray and the late Cammie Gray Sr. of Flat Lick, Ky. She is a 2002 graduate of Steller Secondary School and attended the University of Kentucky and the University of Alaska. Rebekah earned an associate's degree in nursing from Southwest Mississippi Community College. She is a registered nurse with Southwest Health Systems of Mississippi.

William is son of Mr. and Mrs. William Watkin III of Jackman, Maine. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. William Barry Sr. of Mandeville, La., and Carol Watkin and the late William Watkin Jr. of Brevard, N.C. William is an alumnus of Alaska Pacific University and is employed by Fabricated Pipe in Fernwood, Miss.

The couple, who met on a four-wheeling trip to the Knik River, will be wed at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in McComb.

Darcie and Robert Shaffer

Darcie Sarzynski and Robert Shaffer of Eagle River were married July 13 at the Al Aska Shrine Temple in Anchorage.

The wedding was officiated by Ruben Silva, Darcie's stepfather. The best man was Alex Castillo, and matron of honor was Anna Castillo. Groomsmen included James Jones and Jared Dye. Bridesmaids included Rebecca Dawkins, Victoria Snelgrove and junior bridesmaid Lauryn Crawford. The ring bearer was Rushton Dye, and the flower girl was Brooke Irwin. Wedding and reception arrangements were coordinated by Sheila Westfall.

A reception followed, at which guests were treated to Middle Eastern dances performed by Melissa Wanamaker and Aksana Danilova. Highlights included a surprise belly dance for the bridegroom performed by Kimber, who dressed as Marilyn Monroe, and an impromptu zill dance performed by Aurora Borealis with the bride.

The couple will honeymoon this fall on a cruise.

Darcie is the daughter of Tina and Ruben Silva of Anchorage and Charles and Liesa Alverez of Las Vegas. She is a graduate of Bartlett High School and is a certified professional medical coder. She works for the state of Alaska and has a daughter, Brooke. Darcie has been involved in many forms of dance since the age of 3 and is a member of the professional Middle Eastern dance troupe Aurora Borealis.

Rob is the son of Robert and JoEllen Shaffer of Cumming, Ga., and Gail and Charles Hill of Riverside, Ala. He moved to Alaska in 2005 and is a licensed funeral director and embalmer. He works for the Alaska medical examiner's office. Rob has a daughter, Lauryn. He enjoys hockey, car shows, softball and the outdoors.

Nedra (Gridley) Moore and Franklin 'Tony' Glenn

Nedra (Gridley) Moore and Franklin "Tony" Glenn of Anchorage will marry Oct. 23 in a private ceremony on the island of Kauai in Hawaii.

"After 30 years, our lives have come full circle," they wrote. "High school sweethearts and rekindled love. Our story is truly a 'Delilah' story."

Nedra graduated from West High School in 1975. She works as a medical assistant. Her son, Brad, is 28, married to Alicia and father to three "beautiful" girls: Hannah, Hailey and Breanna.

Tony graduated from West High School in 1975. He is a general parts manager at Alaska Sales & Service.

Christine and Brian Dollerhide

Christine Marie Belenski and Brian Ray Dollerhide were married July 13 in Anchorage.

They were married outdoors on a misty day at O'Malley's on the Green. Their friend Kraig Johnson officiated the double-ring ceremony. Stacie Philippi, the bride's sister, was matron of honor, and Craig Dollerhide, the bridegroom's brother, and Aaron Banks were best men. Bridesmaids were Laura Lindh, Erica Blackledge and Monica Giamellaro. Groomsmen were Casey Ressler and Billy Christiansen. Niece Emily Belenski was flower girl, and Leslie Kreger was ring bearer. Celtic violinist Lia Zito and guitarist David McCormick played during the ceremony.

Special guests of the bride included grandparents Jean and Harvey Belenski and guests from out of town, Norma Silverman, Pat Baldwin, and Kay and John Morgan. The bridegroom's special guest was Donald Rasmussen.

The reception hall was decorated in chocolate brown, sage green and ivory. Tables were highlighted with vases of orchids, peonies and ruscus, candles and gift boxes. One hundred guests enjoyed a prime rib and halibut buffet. Christy and Brian toasted each other with a traditional German toasting cup and enjoyed speeches by family and wedding party members. The band Kevin Worrell accompanied Craig in the song "Island in the Sun" by Weezer, a favorite of the couple. Cutting of the four-tier cake, baked by the bride's mother, was followed by the bride's garter and bouquet toss.

The couple left for a one-week honeymoon in Las Vegas and will begin a three-week trip to New Zealand and Australia in October.

Christine is the daughter of Carol A. Belenski of Anchorage and William and Judith Belenski of Olympia, Wash. A 1996 graduate of Service High School, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2001. Christine works as a paralegal specialist.

Brian is the son of Diana and Floyd Dollerhide of Wasilla. A 1992 graduate of Wasilla High School, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Southern Colorado in 1997. He is a graphic and Web designer for The Alaska Club.

Joni and George Vakalis

Joni Wallis and George Vakalis of Anchorage were married Aug. 2 at the Chapel of the Flowers, Magnolia Chapel, in Las Vegas, in a candelight ceremony officiated by the Rev. Hanson and accompanied by couple's best friends, Mike Sexton (best man) and Sheila Sexton (maid of honor), both former Anchorage residents.

The wedding party stayed at the Paris Hotel, where they were picked up by limousine and taken to the chapel. The couple chose a traditional ceremony including a photography session, followed by a limousine tour of the Las Vegas Strip. The party enjoyed a dinner afterward at the Eiffel Tower Restaurant. A celebration will follow at the couple's recreational home on Knik Lake. A honeymoon is planned in Hawaii at Christmas.

Joni is originally from Atlanta, where her family resides. She works for the Anchorage School District and was previously emergency manager for Denali Borough and account executive for the Anchorage Daily News. She has three children, Joshua, Kailee and Jordan.

George is originally from Berwick, Maine, where his family resides. He is a retired Army colonel, works for the Anchorage School District and was previously Anchorage city manager. He has two children, Kevin (Terry) Vakalis and Veronica (Robert) Arrowsmith; and three grandchildren, Alexandria, Natalie and Zade.

Rachel Beach and Benjamin Westveer

Rachel Beach and Benjamin Westveer will marry Oct. 18 at First Presbyterian Church of Wasilla. The reception will be at Settlers Bay Lodge.

Ben and Rachel met in 2007 through a mutual friend. Both enjoy horseback riding, camping, fishing, working with kids and serving God in their church. While Rachel was on a family vacation in Hawaii, Ben called and said he had to leave early for a temporary-duty Air Force assignment in Colorado. However, he surprised her the day she returned by proposing in front of friends and family members.

Rachel is the daughter of Greg and Pam Beach of Palmer. She graduated from Colony High School in 2003 and from the University of Alaska Anchorage in May 2008 with a baccalaureate degree in elementary education.

Ben is the son of Bill and Marcy Westveer of Grand Rapids, Mich. He graduated from Kenowa High School in 2002. Ben joined the Air Force in 2003 and is a SERE (Survival Evasion Resistance Escape) specialist. He is stationed at Eielson Air Force Base, working in the Arctic Survival School.

A reception for Rachel and Ben will take place in Grand Rapids after their honeymoon.
