The Mat-Su Regional Medical Center Volunteer Department is hosting a new volunteer orientation 3 p.m.-8 p.m. Monday.
Interested community members will be trained in volunteer opportunities at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer and at Mat-Su Regional Outpatient Center in Wasilla, according to an announcement by medical center spokeswoman Elizabeth Ripley.
Training will be held in the Denali Room on the third floor of the hospital. To register for this training at the new hospital, please contact Ripley at 861-6849 or e.ripley@msrmc.com.
The training is being held in the afternoon in order to attract youths interested in volunteering for the summer.
Currently, volunteers work as front lobby greeters at both campuses and also assist in the emergency, medical/surgical, surgical services and obstetrics departments of the hospital by doing a variety of tasks to assist patients, visitors and employees.
In addition, volunteers staff the gift shop and espresso stand at the hospital and also represent the hospital in the community at health fairs, parades and other special events. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older to work in the espresso and gift shop, and must be 18 years of age or older to work in the lobby or other clinical positions.
