EAGLE -- On the heels of a springtime flood that damaged homes and businesses, the city of Eagle is bracing for a tough tourist year.
Eagle is about 200 miles east of Fairbanks at the end of the Taylor Highway. Many in the city of 125 rely on the spending of summertime visitors.
The May flood wiped out the community's cafe and hotel.
Tour operators are about a month behind bringing visitors to the Yukon River city, which serves as a launching point for canoers and kayakers.
The Yukon Queen II, which ferries visitors between Eagle and Dawson City in Canada, made its first journey of the season Monday. Flooding had lodged the boat on top of a house.
Tour guide Olivia Loughmiller says people who sell crafts may suffer the most if fewer visitors arrive.
