The Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority board appointed Ted Leonard as executive director. Leonard is currently deputy commissioner of the Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development, where he oversees the Divisions of Insurance, Banking and Securities, and Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing. Prior to his DCCED appointment, Leonard worked in both public and private sector finance and accounting, and most recently served as director of Finance and Administrative Services for the City of Wasilla.

• The public relations firm of Bernholz & Graham Inc. recently hired Mia Costello as a senior account manager. Before joining Bernholz & Graham, Costello was deputy director of communications for former Gov. Frank Murkowski. Her background also includes working as a legislative assistant to the Alaska State Legislature and as an account executive for Bradley Reid and Associates. Costello is a graduate of West High School in Anchorage and Harvard University.

Rebecca Nourse was named deputy forest supervisor for the Tongass National Forest. She has been working in Washington, D.C., headquarters as the U.S. Forest Service Alaska Region's congressional liaison since 2006. Nourse will assume her duties in Ketchikan late this summer. She has experience as district ranger of the Cordova Ranger District, on the Chugach National Forest from 2002 to 2006.

Karl Hanneman was recently named director of corporate affairs for Teck Cominco Alaska, the operator of the Red Dog Mine. Hanneman has worked for the Teck Cominco organization for 10 years, serving previously as Alaska Regional Manager for Teck-Pogo during the exploration, development and permitting of the Pogo Gold Mine. Hanneman will provide assistance on permitting issues and maintain effective relationships with government institutions, the Native community and the public.
