Teresa Harrison has joined New Direction Resource Center as program director. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in education and is currently obtaining counseling credentials. Harrison will be responsible for staff and faculty managment, student enrollment and addmissions, grants and funding and overall program development. New Direction is a high school completion program offering a full-day program to 9th-12th grade students.

The American Lung Association of Alaska announced that Joanie Fogel and Laura Muller have joined the staff as Tobacco Prevention Program Coordinator and Youth Tobacco Program Coordinator, respectively. Fogel will manage the State of Alaska Community Tobacco Policy grant for Anchorage. She previously worked for Chugachmiut as the Tobacco Prevention Coordinator in Seward. Muller will oversee Anchorage youth tobacco programs, engaging with young people around the state in advocacy around tobacco control. Previously, she worked at the Alaska Native Heath Board, providing technical assistance to State of Alaska Community Tobacco Policy grantees.
Alan Renshaw was recently appointed vice president engineering for Usibelli Coal Mine Inc. in Healy. Renshaw has served as chief of engineering since 2001. Renshaw manages a wide variety of technical disciplines including design, analysis and permitting. Renshaw, a 1989 mining engineering graduate of University of Alaska Fairbanks, has worked at Usibelli Coal Mine since 1990. He has held a variety of positions including production engineer, exploration, foreman, permitting and regulatory compliance, and chief engineer for mining operations.
