Mortgage company opens new Wasilla office

Preferred Mortgage has opened an office in Wasilla at 224 N. Yenlo St., Suite 33, space formerly occupied by Kelstar Alaska Mortgage Co. Preferred is a joint venture of Residential Mortgage and Dynamic Properties, said Roger Aldrich of Residential. The Preferred office plans to move in September to 892 E. USA Circle, Suite 101, in Wasilla as soon as remodeling of that new space is done, he said.

Preferred has picked up three staffers of Kelstar: Cris Skinner as branch manager, with Tauna Clegg and Regin Dervaes as mortgage loan officers.

State Chamber conference, trade show set

The Alaska State Chamber of Commerce's annual fall conference and trade show is schedule for Sept. 16-18 in Fairbanks. The conference will feature:

• Economic-impact reports from oil and gas, fishing, mining and visitor industries.

• A forum of U.S. Senate and House candidates.

• Discussion of business opportunities and challenges from around the state.

• Presentation of its William A. Egan Alaskan of the Year and Bill Bivin Small Business of the Year awards.

Alaska SBA seeks nominations for awards

The Alaska office of the U.S. Small Business Administration is looking for nominations for a variety of awards. They include: Small Business Person of the Year, Small Business Exporter of the Year, SBA Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Emerging Small Business Person of Alaska, Jeffrey Butland Family-owned Small Business for a business that has passed to a new generation, Entrepreneurial Success for a business that grew into a large business with SBA assistance.
