Pension firm becomes subsidiary
Alaska Pension Services Ltd., an Anchorage business that provides retirement-plan consulting and administration, has become a subsidiary of National Investment Managers Inc. APS is retaining its name, employees, services and management team while expanding services and adding access to specialized teams of retirement plan experts, said Karen Jordan, president of Alaska Pension Services. NIM has experts in every area of employee benefits, including 401(k) plans, defined benefit plans, cafeteria plans, 403(b)s and employee stock ownership plans, she said. Duane Mayer, the other former partner in APS, will join a NIM actuarial team to work on defined benefit pension plans, including those in Alaska. Jordan and Mayer have ownership in NIM, they said. NIM is headquartered in Dublin, Ohio.
Kaladi Brothers invests in dairy
Kaladi Brothers Coffee announced it has invested $60,000 to begin using only Matanuska Creamery dairy products in its lattes, mochas and other drinks. Kaladi said its new partnership with the creamery will allow it to support another Alaska business while conserving energy.
The creamery delivered its first milk order, about 1,700 gallons, to Kaladi on Tuesday. The coffee company uses about 400 gallons of milk per day at its 11 locations and said it plans to build a new refrigeration unit, costing about $23,000, to store the extra milk needed at the stores. Also, the two companies said they are working together on creating a coffee-flavored ice cream.
