7.4% of workers had more than one job
An estimated 7.4 percent of Alaska workers held more than one job last year, down from 9 percent a year earlier, the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics said. Nationally, the average was 5.2 percent.
Alaska had the 13th highest rate of multiple job holders last year, compared with fifth highest the year before, the bureau said. The highest rates tended to occur in the upper Midwest, New England and Hawaii.
A high rate of multiple jobholders tends to indicate a relatively higher rate of low-income households and low-wage jobs.
Arctic Slope sets fall dividend of $46.10
The Arctic Slope Regional Corp. board has declared a fall dividend of $46.10 per share to be issued in early December. The average Arctic Slope shareholder with 100 shares will receive $4,610, the company said.
"The 2008 fall dividend is the result of strong financial performance throughout 2008 and our continued focus on improving efficiencies at every level of the corporation," said Bobbi Quintavell, chief executive of the Barrow-based regional Native corporation.
The total payout will be $49 million, the company's highest regular dividend ever, the company said. Arctic Slope typically also pays a dividend in the spring. Last spring the dividend was $15 a share.
Arctic Slope operates throughout the country in four major business segments: petroleum refining and marketing, government technical services, energy services and construction industries. It also is part owner of the big Alpine oil field on the North Slope.
