WHY: For the past 10 years, Horn Doctor has required extra space to operate more efficiently, said owner and vice president John Kagerer. The business has repaired about 75,000 band instruments since opening nearly 25 years ago, he said. "If it's a good-quality instrument, it will retain its value forever as long as it's maintained."
Horn Doctor evolved from being solely a repair shop to carrying items such as guitars, amplifiers and sound gear for churches and schools. Requests for this service are steadily growing among Anchorage's musical community, Kagerer said. He added that the demand for school band instruments occurs in cycles. "Sometimes it grows, and sometimes it ebbs," said Kagerer. "Many times, it depends on community support. If the School Board sees value in musical education, they fund it better, and we have better business."
WHEN: The expansion project is scheduled for completion in December. It should be fully operational this spring.
