AK EZ Entertainment opens; it operates DVD rental kiosks

AK EZ Entertainment has opened in Anchorage, owning and operating DVD rental kiosks -- basically high tech vending machines, an industry that has existed in the Lower 48 for some time, said owners David Roberson and Marti Romero.

New-release DVDs cost $1.99 per day to rent. The kiosks require a debit or credit card to use. Customers may look a DVD over for 10 minutes at no charge, Roberson and Romero said.

Their first location is in the Cozy Market convenience store at 6020 Old Seward Highway, at Dowling Road. The site is open 6 a.m. to midnight every day, they said.

Roberson and Romero said they are searching for a second location. "Our long-term goal is to expand," they said. Their Web site is www.akezentertainment.com.

Business Plan Competition deadline is extended to Nov. 14

The 2008 Annual Business Plan Competition entry deadline has been extended to Nov. 14. The event is open to profit and nonprofit businesses in Alaska or that intend to operate in the state; the businesses must be partly owned by students or be willing to get help from students as part of the event. The competition's goal it to promote and nurture new business growth and give Alaska business students a chance to shine. Hosts are the Alaska Pacific University Department of Business Administration, APU's MBA program and the University of Alaska Anchorage College of Business and Public Policy. Student competitors are eligible for three cash prizes ranging from $500 to $1,500. The competition is schedule for 5:30 to 9 p.m. Dec. 3 at the UAA/APU Consortium Library.
