The board of directors of the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce has announced the election results for officers of the organization. Elected to serve are the following: Caroline Higgins with Totem Ocean Trailer Express in Anchorage is chair; Charlie Boddy with Usibelli Coal Mine in Fairbanks is chair elect; Margaret Russell with Seekins Ford Lincoln Mercury in Fairbanks is vice-chair; Larry Cooper with Ukpeagvik Inupiat Corp. in Anchorage serves a second term as secretary/treasurer; and Wendy Lindskoog with the Alaska Railroad Corp. in Anchorage is past chair. Five additional board members elected to serve on the executive committee include Mary Ann Pease of MAP Consulting in Anchorage, Kip Knudson with Tesoro Alaska Co. in Anchorage, Tadd Owens with Pioneer Natural Resources in Anchorage, Phil Cochrane with BP Exploration (Alaska) Inc. in Anchorage and Heidi Franklin with The Pebble Partnership in Anchorage.

Dennis Sharp has joined WHPacific in Anchorage as an electrical engineer. Sharp spent 21 years with Hughes Aircraft/Raytheon, involved in the design, integration and fielding of several radar system test benches. He holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Alaska Anchorage. Sharp's duties include electrical design for structures in the building engineering department.

Three FAA aviation medical examiners have joined Aviation Medical Services of Alaska: Drs. Mark Zimmerman, David Hemry, and Mary Ellen Gordian. Zimmerman has been in private practice in obstetrics and gynecology since 1970. He became interested in aviation after moving to Alaska in 1986. He obtained his private pilot license in 1994 and also has an instrument rating. Hemry first came to Alaska 40 years ago and eventually served the Alaska Army National Guard as state surgeon. He has practiced in Anchorage as an allergist since 1974. Gordian specializes in public health, and came to Alaska in 1991 as a medical officer for Anchorage. She currently works part-time at UAA as an associate professor of environmental health.

Wells Fargo has named Michael Orr senior business relationship manager for its Alaska Commercial Banking Group. Orr was co-founder of Financial Alaska and served as commercial loan officer for Alaska Growth Capital and director of development for Alaska Village Initiatives. Orr began his banking career with National Bank of Alaska as a management trainee.

Bridges Counseling Connection, www.bridgecounseling.org, has hired Masao Yanagida, M.D., as the new psychiatric medical director. Yanagida is a graduate of State University of New York, Stony Brook School of Medicine and was previously employed with Good Samaritan Counseling Center, Alaska, and Mayo Health System, Minnesota. Yanagida treats adults for myriad psychiaric conditions.

At a recent annual meeting the National Association of Social Workers, Alaska Chapter, announced the winners of the 2008 Social Worker of the Year: Lisa Hay; 2008 Citizen of the Year: Paul Beals; and 2008 Elected Official of the Year: Mayor Mark Begich. Hay is the executive director of the LEAP Alternatives to Violence Programs in Fairbanks, where she works with perpetrators of domestic violence and child abuse. Beals, a Vietnam veteran, is a licensed professional counselor. Beals works as an itinerant behavioral health clinician for the Tanana Chiefs Conference. Mayor Begich began his career at the Municipality of Anchorage working in the health and human services department and has continued to make social issues a priority during his years of public service.

Peter Brautigam, F. Steven Mahoney, Robert Manley and Jane Sauer of Manley & Brautigam, P.C., a local law firm, were selected by their peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in American 2009 Edition. Best Lawyers is regarded as a reliable and definitive guide to legal excellence in the United States. Brautigam and Manley are included in the practice areas of taxation as well as trusts and estates. Sauer is included in the practice area of corporate law. Mahoney is listed in natural resource law, nonprofit/charities law, oil and gas law and tax law.

Michael Selvaggio, CCIM, CRS, president of the Council of Residential Specialists, recently announced that Janelle Pfleiger, CRS, has been appointed regional vice president for the council. Pfleiger will be responsible for Region Two, which includes New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. As one of only 16 regional vice presidents throughout the country, Pfleiger will serve as a liaison between the CRS chapters and the national council, working to increase awareness of the CRS designation.
