Sherrie Simmonds, spokeswoman for Alaska Housing Finance Corp., said Alaska has been and continues to be relatively insulated from the downward trend affecting the rest of the country.
For example, according to the corporation's data, the average sale price for homes in Alaska in the third quarter this year was $262,223, only slightly down from $263,446 in the second quarter. However, that number is still up from the third quarter last year, which had an average of $254,519.
"Overall, it looks like it has been gradually increasing," she said. "At least at this point, we're still seeing a good, strong market and still a slight increase in the prices."
