McCorkle became publisher of the magazine in the early 1990s, said Jim Martin, general manager. He had been active in civic and business groups for decades.
Before joining the magazine, he served as city manager of Seldovia and St. Paul as well as other communities.
He had been active in KAKM public television, as a volunteer, a "drum beater" during fundraising drives and as a guest commentator on its "Anchorage Edition" program, Martin said.
McCorkle had served on the board of the Food Bank of Alaska; he had been a member of the Cook Inlet Regional Citizens Advisory Council, which oversees tanker traffic in the Inlet; and he had chaired the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council public advisory group.
In addition, he volunteered regularly with the University of Alaska School of Business and served on the school's curriculum advisory council, Martin said.
He was born in Washington state in 1934.
A reception will be held in his honor, Martin said; time and location are yet to be determined.
