Governor names new state board members
Gov. Sarah Palin recently made the following appointments to business-related state boards: • Municipal Bond Bank Authority -- Gregory J. Gursey of Anchorage, co-owner of Benefits Broker, an Anchorage retirement and investment management firm. The authority helps local governments finance capital projects.
• Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Board -- Dr. Darin M. Bell of Seward, a family-practice physician. The board licenses and disciplines physical and occupational therapists.
• Alaska Housing Finance Corp. -- Brent LeValley of Fairbanks appointed, and N. Claiborne Porter Jr. of Anchorage and Frank Roppel of Wrangell reappointed. LeValley is senior vice president of construction loans for Denali State Bank. Porter has long experience in architectural design and construction of housing and light commercial projects. Roppel is former general manager of Alaska Pulp Corp.
• Alaska Aerospace Development Corp. -- reappointed Thomas D. Walters of Kodiak and Dr. David J. Weldon Jr. of Indialantic, Fla. Walters owns Maritime Helicopters and he fills a seat representing business. Weldon is a former Florida congressman. His seat represents the aerospace industry. The state corporation owns and runs the rocket-launch site on Kodiak.
Rendezvous Cafe open on weekends
Rendezvous Cafe has opened at Mile 7 Arctic Valley Road at the gateway to Chugach State Park.
The cafe serves espresso drinks, pastries and snacks and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
