USKH Inc. has announced that Lance Mearig, P.E., has been selected as vice president. Mearig, a principal of the firm, has been with USKH for 15 years and is a member of its board of directors. He directed USKH's Surface Transportation Engineering Division for the last 2 1/2 years and has managed the company's Juneau office since 1994. Mearig will relocate to Anchorage.

The company also announced the return of Derek Howard, P.L.S., John Rescober, P.E., and Erin Taubitz. Howard returns after an 18-month sabbatical and is a senior surveyor. Rescober returns after four years out of state. He rejoins the Civil Engineering Department and is working on a state airport project in Kotzebue, among other projects. Taubitz graduated from the University of Michigan with a master's degree in architecture and returns to the Architecture Department after previously working for the company for three years.

PND Engineers Inc. recently appointed David Pierce, P.E., S.E., as the firm's new president. Pierce replaces Dennis Nottingham, who has retired after heading the company since its founding in 1979. Pierce has worked for PND for more than 27 years and lately served as Seattle office coordinator and senior vice president. He specializes in structural engineering for marine facilities and bridges, providing services to ports, railroads and marinas as well as the cruise industry and transportation markets.

Avant-Garde Learning Foundation has announced recent staffing changes. Kameron Holloway Perez-Verdia has been hired as chief executive. Perez-Verdia brings 16 years of experience in the nonprofit and educational field. He has held senior leadership positions for Alaska-based organizations including Cook Inlet Tribal Council, Catholic Social Services, Charter College and Alaska Pacific University.

Lorraine M. Jacquard is the new director of operations, and Doreen Lacy is now director of education programs. Jacquard brings 20 years of nonprofit management experience to AGLF. Her primary responsibility is providing leadership in the areas of financial, human resource, grant management, communications, facilities and IT functions.

• Michael L. Foster & Associates Inc., an architecture and engineering firm, welcomes Cheryl Benson as a project engineer in the civil and architectural design group. Benson has more than 25 years of professional experience and specializes in civil and environmental engineering, design and surveying. Mark McDonald has joined MLFA's administrative department. McDonald serves as MLFA's IT manager and has more than 24 years of experience in software engineering and computer networking and systems.

WHPacific welcomes Melodie Fair as a grant writer in the planning division. Fair holds a master's degree in adult education from the University of Alaska Anchorage and a bachelor's degree in education from Allegheny Wesleyan College in Ohio. She provides grant writing services for communities, villages and tribes. Prior to working at WHPacific, she was a research associate at the University of Alaska Anchorage's Institute for Circumpolar Health Studies.

The Rural Alaska Community Action Program Inc. has promoted Melissa Pickle to Parents as Teachers director. Pickle oversees RurALCAP's early childhood parent education program in 19 communities throughout the state. She most recently served as a liaison to the other PAT program managers as the statewide PAT coordinator. Before that, Pickle was an early interventionist/developmental specialist with the Yupiit School District.

Andrea Gribbin, a long-time Anchorage Realtor, has received her Integrated Marketing Specialist Certification through Homes & Land Online University. Gribbin works with clients who desire to buy or sell homes or land. She also works with experienced investors who want to develop land or commercial buildings.
