The Sadie Cove Wilderness Lodge in Kachemak Bay recently won a first-place award as the "Leading U.S. Green Resort" from the World Travel Awards, a London-based firm that divvies out annual tourism awards. Energy authority soliciting grants

The Alaska Energy Authority is soliciting grant applications for renewable-energy projects to be funded by the state. Last year the Legislature established the Renewable Energy Fund and authorized the energy authority to oversee awarding the grants and distributing funds. The energy authority said it is seeking to recommend to the Legislature for funding projects that clearly demonstrate a public benefit. Under the law, the projects must target communities of 10,000 people or fewer that do not have economically viable renewable energy resources. Eligible applicants include utilities, local government agencies, tribal councils and housing authorities, the AEA said.

The deadline for applying is 5 p.m. Nov. 10. For more information, go to www.akenergyauthority.org/RE_Fund-III.html, e-mail Butch White at re_fund@aidea.org, or call 771-3048.
