Charlotte police arrest civilian suspect in shooting of protester

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Police in Charlotte have arrested a suspect in the murder of a civilian protester on Wednesday night, Charlotte Mecklenberg Police Department Chief Kerr Putney said Friday.

The protester, Justin Carr, 26, who died of his wounds Thursday, was shot as residents protested the killing of a black man, Keith Scott, by police on Tuesday.

Putney announced the arrest of Rayquan Borum, 21, but said police do not yet know if victim and suspect knew each other.
