Two people are homeless after a fire destroyed their East Anchorage house Sunday night, according to the Anchorage Fire Department.
Neighbors called 911 shortly before 9:30 p.m. to report the fire at 6530 E. Eighth Ave., a single-story home near Turpin Street.
Firefighters said they had trouble dousing the blaze because the home had been renovated and another roof had been constructed over the original roof. The fire moved in the space between the roofs, according to a written release. It took two hours to get the fire under control.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The two residents were not home at the time and there were no injuries to pets. The home is considered a total loss worth about $200,000.
