NORTH POLE -- A North Pole couple have been accused of abusing the woman's 2-year-old daughter.
According to court documents, 25-year-old Jennifer Downer and 22-year-old Shiloh Morris have been charged with third-degree assault, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
The Criminal Investigation Division unit from Fort Wainwright was called to the couple's house Saturday. Downer and Morris, a private in Fort Wainwright's Stryker brigade, hid the child from investigators, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
The complaint said the girl's face, back, arms and legs were covered in bruises.
Morris told the Alaska Bureau of Investigations that Downer wanted to bring her sister's child to CID in place of her daughter, but he rejected the idea, according to the complaint.
