Cheng Saelee, 27, is facing a presumptive prison term of between seven and 11 years on the robbery conviction, prosecutors said. Saelee was also convicted of illegally contacting his mother from jail and trying to get her to drop the charges, according to prosecutors.

Saelee was charged in November 2008 with robbery, assault and unlawful contact after he got agitated during an argument with his parents, who told him they didn't have money to pay his parking ticket, prosecutors said.

Saelee went to his room, got a handgun and loaded it, then pointed the weapon at his mother's head and demanded money in exchange for her life, prosecutors said.

Saelee will be sentenced Feb. 19.
