The 15-year-old, who was not immediately identified, had been walking in the 400 block of Irwin Street with two other youths about 12:45 a.m. when a white or silver sedan, possibly a PT Cruiser, passed them going north with at least two people inside, police said.

The vehicle turned around and the driver yelled something out the window, police said. The driver then pointed a gun at the boys and fired five or six shots at them.

The 15-year-old was struck in the leg and suffered non-fatal injuries. The other shots hit a nearby apartment building and a parked vehicle.

Police say they don't know why the driver started shooting. The boys claimed they did not know the shooter or why they had been targeted.

The investigation was continuing.
