'Worst offender' gets 5 years

A man has been sentenced to slightly more than five years in prison after being found to be a "worst offender." Prosecutors say that Jimmie Richardson pleaded guilty to felony assault on a police officer, felony eluding, criminal mischief and driving under the influence.

Richardson was sentenced Monday by Superior Court Judge Michael Spaan in Anchorage.

Assistant District Attorney Gustaf Olson said Richardson walked away from a halfway house while on bail in a prior felony case.

An Alaska State Trooper spotted Richardson driving a stolen car. A high speed pursuit ensued. It ended when Richardson rammed Kelly Huston's patrol car numerous times in an attempt to flee.
