WASILLA -- About 1,200 students at Wasilla High School are being sent home following a daylong lockdown because of a bomb threat found at the school, district officials said.

Spokeswoman Catherine Esary said students who take the bus have been put on the buses to go home. The remaining kids and staff are being taken to Wasilla Middle School, where parents can pick them up. The current plan is to hold classes Friday as scheduled at the school, she said.

No signs of a bomb have been found, Esary said. A team from Fort Richardson, including specially trained dogs, were still going room by room through the school to check out the bomb threat, Esary said during early afternoon Thursday.

Esary said the lockdown resulted after two notes were discovered. The first, found by a librarian Wednesday night at a printer in the library, was a sheet of paper with the word "bomb" printed on it. The second note, which triggered the lockdown, was found this morning and had the word "bomb" and the time "1:30" printed on it. Esary said she believed the second note was also found on a library printer.

As a precaution, the district contacted the Wasilla Police Department.

The school is just off Bogard Road in downtown Wasilla. Esary said the school contacted parents by e-mail about the lockdown. Students were also allowed to call their parents by cell phone or by sending a text message.
