GUSTAVUS -- Authorities were searching for a 16-year-old Gustavus boy after his car was found off a local pier on Sunday.
A Gustavus resident reportedly located a car known to belong to the boy in the waters of Icy Passage north of Icy Strait on Sunday. The car appeared to have been driven off the end of a pier and the driver's side door was open, the Coast Guard said.
The boy's parents reported to Alaska State Troopers in Juneau that they had not seen their son since Saturday night.
The Coast Guard diverted an HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Sitka and the Juneau-based Coast Guard Cutter Liberty from patrol to help the search. Alaska State Troopers, the Civil Air Patrol, Glacier Bay Park Rangers and Gustavus residents also joined in.
