COFFMAN COVE -- Officials have suspended the search for a man whose partially submerged canoe was discovered near Snow Passage earlier this week, Alaska State Troopers said Wednesday.
Samuel Butler, 24, of Coffman Cove, was last seen about 3:30 a.m. Monday leaving a party in a 16-foot flat-bottomed canoe with a motor, troopers said. He had been drinking and was seen driving the boat erratically, they said.
The canoe was found later in the day between Bushy Island and Zarembo Island. Only a life vest and a gas can were aboard it, troopers said.
The U.S. Coast guard, aided by numerous good Samaritan vessels, searched the area by boat and aircraft but was unable to find any other sign of Butler, troopers said.
