KODIAK -- Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell has declared a state disaster for storm damage last month on Kodiak Island.
The declaration means the state will fund eligible emergency-response costs. It also will pay for infrastructure repair projects, restoring them to pre-disaster conditions.
The island received substantial rainfall beginning in early October. The rain caused floods, landslides and erosion that clogged culverts and washed out roads.
