Scott Zimmerman, 25, was picked up by a Coast Guard helicopter after the mishap, which was reported about 11:30 a.m., the Coast Guard said.

Zimmerman had been cutting down a tree near the town airport when it apparently fell on him, according to the Coast Guard. It was not immediately clear Friday how the tree landed on him.

The Coast Guard dispatched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Kodiak to the village on Spruce Island north of Kodiak Island about 12:15 p.m. and it arrived about 20 minutes later.

Rescuers found Zimmerman already wrapped in a litter and wearing a C-collar.

Zimmerman was taken to Providence Kodiak Island Medical
