INCIDENTS
Theft - Troopers responded at 2:25 p.m. Jan. 6 to a residence on North Autumn Lane Wasilla where Paul Pike, 39, of Wasilla reported that a handgun was taken from the residence sometime between the first week of December and Jan. 6. There were no signs of forced entry. The gun is described as a .44 caliber Taurus revolver with a chrome barrel and black hand grips. It is valued at $600. Anyone with information is asked to call troopers at 373-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.
Burglary - Troopers responded at 6:19 a.m. Jan. 7 to the Juggernaut Coffee Stand near Seward Meridian Parkway and Bogard Road where sometime between 3:30 p.m. Jan. 6 and 6:10 a.m. Jan. 7 someone had broken the lock off the door and entered the shop. The proprietor reported that cash was stolen from the register. Anyone with information is asked to contact troopers at 745-2131 or Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.
Death investigation - Troopers responded at 10:49 a.m. Jan. 7 to a hospice facility near Wasilla where Billie Moore, 80, of Eagle River, who suffered from dementia, had died of natural causes. Moore had Comfort One paperwork on file and no foul play is suspected. Life Alaska and the state medical examiner were notified. The body was released to the family. Next of kin was present at the time of death.
Criminal mischief - Troopers responded at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 7 to Willow Air where someone had shot a 1952 DeHavilland Beaver seven times with a large caliber handgun. Estimated damage to the aircraft is $100,000. Anyone with information is asked to call troopers at 745-2131 or Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.
Collision - The Alaska Wildlife Troopers responded at 6:14 p.m. Jan. 8 to the Palmer-Wasilla Highway and Schelin Spur for a two-car collision. Jayme Donoho, 21, of Wasilla was eastbound in a 2002 Honda Accord and turned in front of Phyllis Schafer, 62, of Wasilla who was westbound in a 1992 Chrysler Dynasty. Donoho's failure to yield caused Schafer to strike the side of her car. Both drivers reported wearing seat belts and there were no injuries reported. Donoho was issued a citation for failure to yield while turning left. Both vehicles sustained substantial damage.
Collision - Troopers responded at 3:20 p.m. Jan. 9 to Mile 103 Parks Highway where Kaare Erickson, 23, of Anchorage was southbound in a 2006 Subaru Forrester when he collided with a 1994 Ford fuel truck driven by Danny Maynard, 60, of Talkeetna who was turning into a residence to deliver fuel. Everyone involved in the collision was wearing seat belts. Erickson suffered minor injuries due to the seat belt but refused medical treatment at the scene. Erickson's Subaru sustained approximately $6,000 damage and was towed from the scene. The fuel truck sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene. Erickson received a traffic citation for failure to use care to avoid a collision and was released from the scene.
Collision - Troopers responded at 8 p.m. Jan. 10 to a two-vehicle collision on the Parks Highway near Vienna Woods Drive in Wasilla. David Donajkowski, 30, of Wasilla was stopped on the Parks Highway in his 1979 Mercury Marquis waiting to turn left when he was struck from behind by a 1989 Jeep Cherokee driven by Tisha D. Watts, 25, of Anchorage. Both drivers were cited for no proof of insurance. Donajkowski was also cited for driving while license revoked. Both vehicles sustained more than $2,000 in total damage. All occupants reported wearing seat belts and no injuries were reported.
Death investigation - Troopers responded at 11:10 p.m. Jan. 10 to a Wasilla residence where Joe White, 96, of Wasilla had died. The state medical examiner's office was notified and no foul play is suspected. The body was released to next of kin.
Collision with injury - Troopers responded at 1:26 a.m. Jan. 13 to Mile 10 Knik-Goose Bay Road, where Jessie Lutz, 25, of Wasilla was southbound when she lost control of her vehicle and went into the ditch, rolling the vehicle several times. Lutz was wearing her seat belt and was transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center where she was treated for minor injuries. Her vehicle sustained major damage and was towed from the scene. Alcohol was a factor in the collision.
Collision - Troopers responded at 5:44 p.m. Jan. 13 to a single-vehicle rollover at Mile 71 Parks Highway where Bearclaw Shipe, 58, of Anchorage was southbound in a 1999 Dodge pickup when he lost control on the icy road and rolled one time coming to a rest upside down facing the northbound traffic. Shipe and his passenger were wearing seat belts and were not injured. Shipe's vehicle sustained approximately $4,000 damage and was towed from the scene. No citation was issued.
Collision - Troopers responded at 8:20 a.m. Jan. 10 to a two-vehicle collision at Fairview Loop Road and the Old Matanuska Road. Bradley Truax, 49, of Wasilla was attempting to turn right onto Fairview Loop Road when he collided with Jennifer Smart, 23, of Wasilla. Total damage to both vehicles was estimated at $2,500. Both drivers reported wearing their seat belts and no injuries were reported. Truax was cited for speeding
Collision - Troopers responded at 8:20 a.m. Jan. 10 to a collision involving a school bus at Mile 7 Palmer-Wasilla Highway. William Godfretsen, 30, of Wasilla was eastbound in a 1991 Honda Civic when he lost control of the vehicle and crossed over the centerline in front of a westbound school bus, operated by Krystal Brown, 53, of Big Lake. There were no children on the bus and Brown was not injured. Godfretsen sustained minor injuries and was transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. All occupants were wearing seat belts. Godfretsen was cited for speeding.
Collision - Troopers responded at 5:45 p.m. Jan. 9 to a two-vehicle collision near the intersection of Fairview Loop Road and Old Matanuska Road. A 17-year-old from Palmer was eastbound on Old Matanuska Road when he failed to stop at the stop sign before merging onto Fairview Loop and collided head-on with a westbound vehicle driven by Anthony Carrington, 27, of Fort Richardson. Total damage to both vehicles is estimated at $6,000. Both drivers were wearing seat belts and no injuries were reported. The 17-year old was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign.
Vehicle theft - Troopers responded at 2:25 p.m. Jan. 10 to a residence on North Meadow Lakes Drive where David Dreves, 29, of Wasilla reported that a 1987 red Honda Rebel motorcycle was taken sometime between the first week of June and mid-November. Value of the motorcycle is estimated at $1,000. Anyone with information is asked to call troopers at 373-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.
Collision - Troopers responded at 2:42 p.m. Jan. 10 to a multiple-vehicle accident at Mile 85 Parks Highway. Carl Cady, 54, of Fairbanks was northbound on the Parks Highway in his 2000 Honda Accord when he slowed down for a vehicle in the ditch in front of him. Cady was rear-ended by a 17-year old of Wasilla who was driving a 1995 Ford pickup. All involved were wearing seat belts and were not injured. Cady's vehicle sustained approximately $5,000 in damage and was towed from the scene. The truck sustained less than $500 damage and was driven from the scene. The driver was cited for failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision and was released from the scene.
Collision - Alaska Wildlife Troopers responded at 7:14 p.m. Jan. 9 to Mile 36.4 Glenn Highway where James Russell, 61, of Palmer was northbound in a 2001 Saturn SL when he slowed for a corner and lost control. He crossed the southbound lane and hit a guardrail. Russell's vehicle and the guardrail were damaged. Russell was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. The Transportation Department was contacted about the damaged guardrail.
Collision - Troopers responded at 3:45 p.m. Jan. 10 to a two-car collision at the Parks Highway and Sylvan Road. Shane Starrett, 30, of Willow was eastbound in a 2004 Dodge pickup when he tried to stop for a red light but slid through the intersection. Starrett collided with a 1996 Jeep Cherokee driven by Federico Gastelum, 39, of Wasilla who was turning right from Sylvan onto the Parks Highway. Both drivers reported wearing their seat belts and there were no reported injuries. Starrett was cited for driver to exercise due care to avoid a collision. Estimated total damage to both vehicles is $8,000.
