JUNEAU -- The sponsor of a bill revising the state's coastal management program says the Palin administration is not working fast enough to iron out the problems.
Sen. Donny Olson of Nome says residents of his district feel they have no say in large scale projects like oil development in the Chukchi Sea.
Natural Resources Commissioner Tom Irwin says it could take a year to complete a review and determine whether regulatory changes are needed to coastal management.
The program, which allows coastal communities some oversight over development projects, was overhauled in 2003 by former Gov. Frank Murkowski, who said it was a burden on developers.
Sixteen of 28 districts have new plans in effect but many say they are dissatisfied with the program.
