JUNEAU -- Officials at Juneau's Eaglecrest ski area will honor ski passes issued by a Yukon slope that won't open this year because of a lack of snow and other issues.
Eaglecrest is honoring ski passes sold at Mount Sima in Whitehorse.
Eaglecrest general manager Kirk Duncan says helping Mount Sima through its temporary problems will help ensure its long-term success.
He says they don't want the residents of Whitehorse to get out of the habit of skiing and snowboarding.
Duncan also says it might be a good way to fill up some of Juneau's hotel rooms and restaurants.
According to its Web site, the nonprofit organization that runs Mount Sima has faced problems with the breakdown of equipment and a lack of consistent staffing.
