The Alaska Railroad will be conducting a whistle stop training tour for emergency responders in 10 communities in coming weeks.
The tour also will provide information through a mobile "fair" for interested members of the public.
The railroad's environmental services and emergency response manager, Marc Peterson, said the agency is required to coordinate with emergency responders about potential accidents and incidents involving freight and passenger trains.
"These face-to-face forums allow for a true partnering with local emergency organizations," Peterson said in a written statement. "At the same time, the traveling train provides a venue to reach everyday citizens with tools that can save lives and property."
Public fair railcars will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, according to the following schedule:
Seward, passenger dock terminal, March 31.
Whittier, Princess track, April 1.
Palmer, Fairgrounds depot, April 2.
Wasilla, Pittman Road siding, April 3.
Talkeetna, Spur siding downtown, April 4.
Healy, Yard outfit track, April 5.
Clear Air Force Station, Spur track, April 6.
Nenana, Long Pass track, April 7.
Fairbanks, Depot track, April 8 and 9.
