SHAGELUK -- A man accused of choking and beating his girlfriend was charged with three felony counts of assault Wednesday, according to Alaska State Troopers.
Troopers say Leonard Howard, 55, was drinking when he pointed a loaded .44 Magnum revolver at his girlfriend, then pistol-whipped her with it. Howard beat her head and face with his fists during the assault as well, troopers said.
Troopers from Aniak took Howard into custody following the report about 11 a.m. and booked him in Bethel. In addition to the felony assault charges, Howard is facing misdemeanor assault and weapons charges.
